Keeneland has cataloged 1,827 horses for its 2011 January Horses of All Ages Sale, to be held Jan. 10-14 at the Lexington sales pavilion.
The total cataloged is up slightly from the 1,753 cataloged last year but is down considerably from the 2008 figure of 2,379 cataloged in 2008.
Catalogs for the sale will be available on Keeneland’s website, www.keeneland.com, beginning Monday, Dec. 6. Print catalogs will be mailed the week of Dec. 20.
"The January Sale is well-known as a market for stakes-winning broodmare prospects," Keeneland sales director Geoffrey Russell said in a release. "And it is also proving to be a solid market for yearlings, offering a broad representation for pinhookers and end-users alike, as well as those interested in horses of racing age or stallion prospects."
According to Keeneland, graduates of the January Sale include 2010 grade I stakes winners Afleet Express, E Z's Gentleman, and Smiling Tiger; grade II winners Cat by the Tale, Dancinginherdreams, and Stunning Stag; and grade III winner Touching Beauty.
The catalog consists of broodmares covered by 184 different stallions, including Afleet Alex , Arch , Bernardini , Bluegrass Cat , Candy Ride , Curlin , Empire Maker , Indian Charlie, Malibu Moon , More Than Ready , Mr. Greeley, Speightstown , Street Cry, Tapit , Tiznow and Unbridled's Song.
Also in the catalog are "short" yearlings (foals of 2010 who became yearlings Jan. 1) representing 196 stallions, including Afleet Alex , Arch , Bernardini , Bluegrass Cat , Distorted Humor , Elusive Quality , Giant's Causeway , Indian Charlie, Malibu Moon , Medaglia d'Oro , More Than Ready , Mr. Greeley, Speightstown , Tale of the Cat , Tapit , Tiznow and Unbridled's Song.
