Michael Gill's Boston Brat, who set a track record for five furlongs in his last start, equaled Gulfstream Park's record for 5 1/2 furlongs Monday as he raced the distance in 1:02 2/5.

The 6-year-old horse by Tour d'Or took the lead at the start of the starter allowance event and steamed the first quarter in :21 2/5 and the half-mile in :43 4/5. He drew out to win by more than 10 lengths without ever being asked for his all by rider Jose Santos. Boston Brat, trained by Gulfstream's leading conditioner Mark Shuman, paid $2.40 as the 1-5 favorite.

Boston Brat, who was bred in Florida by Andy Stronach, tied the record set by Rare Rock on Jan. 3, 1998. Rare Rock carried 119 that day, while Boston Brat toted 122 to victory Monday.

In his previous start on Jan. 17, Boston Brat set a record for five furlongs at Gulfstream, racing the distance in :56 1/5.
