Dan Fick, a longtime executive director of racing for the American Quarter Horse Association, is expected to be named executive director of The Jockey Club during a board of stewards meeting Feb. 6.
Word has circulated that Fick would be named to the post. A spokesman for The Jockey Club said nothing would be official until the meeting.
As part of his work with the AQHA, Fick was involved in the alliance formed with the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.
The executive director's post at The Jockey Club has been vacant since May 2002, when Gary Carpenter left to take the job as executive director of the AQHA. At The Jockey Club, Carpenter replaced Nick Nicholson, who left to serve as president of the Keeneland Association in May 2000.
