Roland Sahm, Owner of Super Diamond, Dies

Roland Richard Sahm, who along with his wife, Ramona, campaigned Thoroughbreds throughout the late 1980s, including 1986 Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I) winner Super Diamond, died on Jan. 25 at age 85 at his home in Rancho Santa Fe.

Sahm bred Super Diamond, a son of Pass the Glass who was trained by the late Eddie Gregson, as well. Super Diamond ran for eight season and won the 1989 San Antonio Handicap (gr. II) and the 1988 San Pasqual Handicap (gr. II). He ran twice in the Santa Anita Handicap, finishing third in 1988 and 11th in 1989. Overall, Super Diamond won more than $1.4 million.
