Dr. Tom Tobin of the University of Kentucky will represent a group of Irish Thoroughbred trainers currently facing morphine positive cases at an upcoming hearing before the Irish Turf Club.

The string of positive cases -- which numbers at least nine in Ireland and 28 in Britain and is expected to grow -- has been attributed to contaminated feed. Feed company Red Mill subsequently recalled the affected feed at the end of December and wrote to all its customers informing them of the contamination.

Currently there are no threshold limits for morphine under the rules of racing in Britain and Ireland. The Racing Post reports it is expected Tobin, a world-renowned expert in equine medication issues, will be brought in to address that issue.
