Anthony Penfold, the racing and bloodstock manager to Fahd Salman for many years, has been appointed stud manager and bloodstock and racing adviser for Roger Baines's Britton House Stud, which is based in Somerset, England.

"I'm thrilled to be involved in this top-quality operation," Penfold said. "Roger Baines has bought some very nice mares and there is a good nucleus of top-class mares. It's only in its fourth year but Britton House has already sold a $1 million yearling at the Keeneland sales. There's a very good team here and I'm delighted to be part of it."

Penfold will continue to run his Bugley Stud, which is based in nearby Dorset, and act as an independent bloodstock agent.

Britton House Stud was purchased in 1999 by Roger Baines Holdings Ltd. and has since undergone a major redevelopment under the supervision of Dick Fowlston.

The business plan has been to build up a band of high-quality mares, selling their progeny while retaining some to go into training, and make Britton House into one of the UK's foremost studs.
There are 56 boxes in four separate units. There is also a separate isolation unit as well as a dedicated foaling unit and intensive care facilities.

The stud is divided into 16 paddocks and was originally part of the famous Portman Estate. The stud has been totally free of any chemical sprays or fertilisers since the 1940s.

One of the mares at Britton House is Oyster Catcher, by Bluebird, who was purchased at the 2000 Keeneland November sale for $2,150,000.

The $1-million yearling, a colt by Seeking The Gold out of the Summer Squall mare Mackie, was purchased at last year's consigned at last year's Keeneland September sale.
