Michael Tabor's Mayakovsky escaped a life-threatening injury in Saturday's $500,000 Barretts/CTBA Turf at Santa Anita.

The Florida-bred son of Matty G suffered deep cuts to the hock and tendon area on his right hind leg and will miss "at least two or three weeks" of training, according to trainer Patrick Biancone.

"If it (the injury) was another half an inch (to the) left or right," Biancone said, "it would have cut his tendon. He's lucky to be alive. He's quite a well-blooded horse and he should recover well, but we need to be careful about infection, things like that."
