Stakes Winner Regiment Tops Barretts Opener

The Thoroughbred Corporation's Regiment, a 4-year-old son of Outflanker, was purchased by agent Bruno De Berdt for $100,000 to top Tuesday's opening session of the Barretts Equine Ltd.'s winter mixed sale. The colt, winner of the Siamoned "A" U.S.A. Stakes and placed in two grade III stakes, was consigned by Kristin Mulhall.

Barretts reported 269 horses were sold for $2,122,800 averaging $7,891 with a median of $4,200. During the comparable session one year ago, 207 horses sold for $1,567,500 averaging $7,572 with a median of $4,500. Tuesday's buyback percentage dropped to 9.7%, compared with 11.5% in 2002.

The highest priced broodmare and second highest price of the session was Real Rula, a 4-year-old Turkoman mare in foal to leading 2002 freshman sire Distorted Humor. She was consigned by Havens Bloodstock Agency, Inc. and sold to John B. Crook for $60,000.

The highest priced 2-year-old and third highest price of the session was a colt by Bertrando colt, which was sold by River Edge Farm, Inc. to John Sadler for $52,000.
