Flores Wins Four Races at Santa Anita
Jockey David Flores capped a four-win day at Santa Anita on Thursday by guiding Hannibal Lad to a three-quarter length victory in the featured $79,300 seventh race at 1 1/4 mile on turf.Flores won with his last three mounts on the card. He won the fifth race with Mon Ange ($17) and the sixth with Emphasize ($16.80) prior to Hannibal Lad.He also captured the second race on Cayoke, a French-bred 6-year-old whose winning time for 6 1/2 furlongs on Santa Anita's downhill turf course was a record 1:11.41.Making his second start in the United States, English-bred Hannibal Lad covered the 10 furlongs in 1:58.92 to earn top money of $36,600 in the optional $80,000 claiming event for 4-year-olds and up.Trained by Darrell Vienna, Hannibal Lad is a 7-year-old gelding by Irish-bred Rock City. He ran seventh in his U.S. debut, the Hollywood Turf Cup (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park on Nov. 28.Flores took him to the lead between horses in mid-stretch, and Hannibal Lad held on to nip Chilean-bred Trompolino in the field of eight.Hannibal Lad paid $10, $6.20 and $4.60. Trompolino paid $13.60 and $7.40.
