The Maryland Jockey Club and the South Atlantic Amateur Boxing Association have entered an agreement to bring boxing to Laurel Park on Feb. 15.
Billed as "The Rumble At The Races," the card will feature eight to 10 bouts beginning at 4 p.m. in the track's Carriage Room. Tickets will be $3 at the door.
"The Rumble At The Races" will be part of a big day at Laurel. The $200,000 Barbara Fritchie Handicap (gr. II) will be the feature attraction on the track that afternoon. The sprint is expected to include Eclipse Award winner Xtra Heat and the highly-regarded Wilzada.
"Rumble At The Races" is a United States Amateur Boxing Association sanctioned event with competing teams from Baltimore and Washington D.C. areas.
In addition to the bouts, WBA middleweight champion William Joppy and former heavyweight title holder Hasim Rahman are scheduled to sign autographs.
There will be a second boxing event at Pimlico Race Course during the spring meet.
