Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt will sell some of their racing and breeding stock July 12 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky auction, the sale company announced June 16.
The Heiligbrodts, among the nation’s leading owners with a focus on 2-year-old racing, said they will take a “hiatus” from the business to spend more time with family and handle other business interests, according to the release.
About 80 horses will be sold in a consignment handled by Bluewater Sales.
The Heiligbrodts, with horses predominantly trained by Steve Asmussen, have ranked in the top 10 leading owners every year from 2007-2010, and have won more than 650 races and $21.5 million in purses since 2005. They have owned all or part of 118 stakes winners, 45 of which are graded-stakes winners.
Horses in the Heiligbrodt dispersal will be stabled at Newtown Paddocks and available for inspection beginning July 9, Fasig-Tipton said. The 80 horses will be offered in a single, continuous session immediately following the Kentucky selected yearling sale.
Racehorses, 2-year-olds in training, in-foal mares with 2011 foals by their sides, and yearlings will be part of the dispersal.
Catalogs for the sale will be available online starting June 22 and in print June 25.
