Hall of Fame conditioner Richard Mandella sent out several of his stable stars for workouts at Santa Anita Wednesday morning, including Hollywood Derby (gr. IT) hero Johar.

The Thoroughbred Corp. color bearer was clocked in 1:01 3/5, handily, over a fast main track under regular rider Alex Solis. The colt is expected to start in Monday's San Marcos Handicap (gr. IIT) at 1 1/4 mile over the turf course.

Mandella also will start Clement L. Hirsch Memorial Handicap (gr. IT) winner The Tin Man in Monday's Martin Luther King Day holiday feature. The son of Affirmed hasn't started since finishing a strong fourth in the Oct. 26 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT).

"I hate to run the two together, but it's the only place I have so I have to do it," Mandella said.

Redattore, last year's San Antonio Handicap (gr. IIT) winner, worked five furlongs in :59 2/5, handily. The 8-year-old Brazilian-bred hasn't started since finishing third in the Eddie Read Handicap (gr. IT) at Del Mar back on July 28.

"He's doing great," Mandella said. "I don't know where I'll start him back, but he's not far away from getting back."

Pleasantly Perfect, unraced since winning the Oct. 6 Goodwood Handicap (gr. II), worked in company with Cagney, a grade 3 winner who hasn't started since finishing unplaced in last year's Whittingham Handicap (gr. I). The pair were timed in 1:39 1/5 for the one-mile work.

"Cagney's good, too, and I'm ready to start him back, but I don't really know where yet. Pleasantly Perfect will run – he and (grade 1 winner) Kudos – on Feb. 2 in the San Antonio."

Also set to start in the San Marcos is The Thoroughbred Corp.'s David Copperfield, last seen finishing second in the San Gabriel Handicap (gr. II) on Dec. 29. The 5-year-old son of Halo earned a final time of 1:03 2/5 for his five-furlong work on Wednesday.
