Whywhywhy Posts Impressive Breeze

Patrick Biancone and Fabian Ouaki's grade 1 winner Whywhywhy, who hasn't started since a 10th-place finish in the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) at Arlington Park Oct. 26, worked an impressive half-mile in :47 1/5, breezing, at Santa Anita Wednesday morning.

The chestnut son of Mr. Greeley is expected to make his sophomore debut in the Feb. 15 Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park.

"Well that's what the newspapers say," joked trainer Biancone. "So I guess that's where we're going. There's something about that name – Fountain of Youth – that makes you want to run there."

According to Biancone, Whywhywhy – last year's Belmont Futurity Stakes (gr. I) winner – is a good-natured horse, which makes training him much easier.

"He's a very happy horse all the time. It's just part of his nature."

Other names considered probable for the Fountain of Youth include grade one winners Toccet and Sky Mesa; stakes winner Trust n Luck; and allowance winners Ten Cents a Shine, Lion Tamer and Indy Dancer.

Biancone also said that Michael Tabor's Mayakovsky, an impressive winner of a one-mile allowance test over Santa Anita's turf last week, would be cross-entered in both the Sunshine Millions Classic and the Sunshine Millions Turf both set for Saturday, Jan. 25. A decision on where the colt will turn up will be made sometime in the next few days, although Biancone has said he's leaning to the Classic. The Classic will be run at 1 1/8 miles over Gulfstream Park's main track while the turf will be contested at the same distance over Santa Anita's lawn.
