Average, Median Prices Slip at OBSC Open Sessions

A yearling colt by Lite the Fuse went to JNR Stable for $42,000 to top the final session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2003 Winter Mixed Sale.
Out of stakes placed White Ruffle, by Vigors, the gray or roan colt (Hip No. 908) was consigned by Beth Bayer, agent for Jacarie Farm.
A yearling colt by Yankee Victor (Hip No. 709) was sold to Leprechaun Racing, agent for $38,000. Lakland LLC consigned the bay colt out of Mystery Dance, by Sword Dance (IRE), a full sister to stakes winner Von Groovey.
A filly by Running Stag (Hip No. 785) out of stakes winner Roana Gale, by Prospector's Halo went to Jason Mamakos, Agent for $35,000. Nancy Bauman, agent consigned the dark bay or brown yearling filly from the first crop of the graded stakes winner in both France and the United States.
The session's high-priced broodmare was Lady Crystal (Hip No. 875), a 6-year-old Sky Classic mare in foal to Exchange Rate purchased by Padua Stables for $30,000. Beth Bayer, agent consigned the chestnut mare out of graded stakes placed Through the Door.
For the session, 189 horses sold for a total of $995,000. The average price was $5,265 with a $3,000 median and 21% buyback percentage.
For the two open sessions combined, 382 horses grossed $1,800,600, compared with 250 horses bringing $1,313,500 in last year's single open session. The average price was $4,714, compared with $5,254 in 2002, while the median price was $2,850 compared with last year's $3,700. The buyback percentage was 21.4%; it was 18.3% in 2002. JNR Stable was the leading buyer with three for $82,000.
At Monday's Consignor Preferred session, 198 horses were sold for a total of $3,192,400, averaging $16,123 with a $12,750 median. The session topper was Hip No. 252, Norwegian Wood, a 3-year-old Wild Again filly consigned by Peacock Ridge (Becky Boyd), agent and sold to Ro Parra for $80,000. The unraced dark bay or brown broodmare prospect is out of Sharon Brown, by Al Hattab, and thus a half-sister to champion Holy Bull. Earl Silver, Tara Stables, Agent was the session's leading buyer, taking home four horses for a total of $132,000.
