The California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Board of Directors has named
Doug O'Neill its 2002 Cal-bred trainer of the year. O'Neill's Cal-breds earned $1,929,976 last year. He scored 41 wins from 210 starters, Included in O'Neill's stable was Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I) winner Sky Jack; California Cup Distaff winner Lil Sister Stitch; Cat's Cradle winner Cee's Elegance and California Breeders' Champion Stakes winner Excessivepleasure. For the year, O'Neill-trained horses won 82 races and $3,245,798 in purses. He won training titles at Fairplex Park and at the Hollywood Park Fall Meeting. O'Neill will be presented with a trophy at the CTBA Annual Meeting and Awards luncheon on Sunshine Millions Day, Jan. 25, at Santa Anita. ... The National Museum of Racing will off a free, Family Fun Day
"All the President's Horses" on Feb. 9 from 1-3 p.m. The program will feature horses used by former Presidents.
