(from track report)
The Tin Man, idle since finishing fourth in the Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) on Oct. 26, worked seven furlongs on the grass Sunday in 1:28 in preparation for next Monday's $150,000 San Marcos Stakes (gr. IIT) for 4-year-olds and up at 1 ΒΌ mile on the Santa Anita turf.

"I'm just trying to get them back on the trail for the long distance turf races," trainer Richard Mandella said of The Tin Man and Hollywood Derby (gr. IT) winner Johar, who he also plans to start in the San Marcos.

"I wish I had two different races to run them in, but I don't. But they're both very nice and they complement each other (with their racing styles). One's a speed horse (The Tin Man) and one comes from way back (Johar)."

Probable for the San Marcos: Grammarian, Jose Valdivia Jr.; Harrisand, no rider; Johar, Alex Solis; National Anthem, David Flores; T.H. Lear, Victor Espinoza; The Tin Man, Mike Smith; and White Heart, no rider.
