Gulfstream: Trainer Mark Casse had his undefeated stakes-winning 3-year-old colt Added Edge work five furlongs in 1:00 1/5 on Sunday. It was the second fastest trial of the day for that distance. Added Edge is slated to make his 2003 debut in the Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) on Saturday.
Trainer Carl Nafzger had his stakes-winning mare Softly and the undefeated stakes-winning 3-year-old filly My Boston Gal out for morning trials. Softly, who could run in either the $100,000 The Very One Handicap on Feb. 8 or the $100,000 Suwannee Rivr Handicap on March 2, was clocked :37 breezing for three furlongs. My Boston Gal went a half-mile in :50 3/5 breezing. My Boston Gal has designs on the $150,000 Davona Dale Stakes (gr. II) on Feb. 23 and the $200,000 Bonnie Miss Stakes (gr. II) on March 14.
Gygistar, winner of the Kings Bishop Stakes (gr. I) in his last start at Saratoga, had his first work at Gulfstream this winter. He was timed in :47 breezing for a half-mile. Trainer Mark Hennig isn't sure when Gygistar will make his next start.
Palm Meadows: Trainer Todd Pletcher worked Harlan's Holiday and Bham five furlongs on Sunday. The winner of the 2002 Florida Derby (gr. I), Harlan's Holiday, who was held out of Saturday's Hal's Hope Handicap (g. III) after a dull drill, was clocked in 1:01 4/5 breezing. He is being pointed for the $500,000 Donn Handicap at Gulfstream on Feb. 22. Bham, runner-up in the recent Remsen Stakes, was timed in 1:03 breezing and will run in Saturday's Holy Bull Stakes.
