Trainer Dale Romans will be trying for his second turf stakes victory at Gulfstream this year when he saddles McKee Stable's Foster's Landing in the Jan. 19 $100,000 Mac Diarmida Handicap (gr. IIIT) at 1 3/8 mile on the turf.
Romans also saddled Point Prince to win the Appleton Handicap (gr. IIT) on Jan. 4.
"He's better now than he's ever been," Romans said of Foster's Landing. "He was beaten just a nose when second in a stakes at Churchill in his last start and he's been training real good here at Gulfstream. Also, I think he should like the distance of the Mac Diarmida."
Foster's Landing led all the way when he won a 1½ mile turf allowance race at Keeneland on Oct. 23. He then dug in gamely in the stretch when beaten by the bob of a nose in the River City Handicap (gr. IIIT) at 1 1/8 mile at Churchill Downs in his last start on Nov. 17.
