Marjorie and Irving Cowan's Ministers Wild Cat, a 3-year-old colt out of Hollywood Wildcat by Deputy Minister, turned some heads in Saturday's fourth race at Santa Anita, defeating a $48,000 maiden special weight field by 7 1/2 lengths in a time of 1:22.57 for seven furlongs.

A half-brother to Double Cat, who was third in the San Gorgonio (gr. IIT) a race earlier, the bay colt, ridden by Kent Desormeaux for trainer Neil Drysdale, dueled with longshots Continuum and Skip to the Beat through early fractions of :22.23 and :44.77. By the top of the stretch, Ministers Wildcat had opened up a four-length lead and galloped home while widening the advantage.

The Kentucky homebred was making his second career start after finishing second in his debut while racing wide at Santa Anita Dec. 26.

Sent of at 1-2 in the field of seven, he paid $3, $2.20 and $2.10. Romeo Tango returned $2.80 and $2.20 and the show price on Inwood Home was $2.80.
