Century City Adds Blinkers for San Fernando
Century City will make his dirt debut in blinkers in Saturday's $200,000 San Fernando Stakes (gr. II) for 4-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles.The $2.2 million Irish-bred son of Danzig blew out three furlongs Wednesday morning at Hollywood in :36 flat."He worked super," trainer Beau Greely said. "We're putting blinkers on him for the first time for his first start on the dirt, but I couldn't be happier with the way he's coming up to the race."Century City was third in his U.S. debut at Bay Meadows last Nov. 3, beaten only a neck after missing the break. He was off slowly in the Dec. 1 Hollywood Derby (gr. I), where he finished eighth of nine.In other San Fernando developments:Olmodavor was declared out of the race by trainer Richard Mandella. "He's not going to make it," Mandella said. "He just stiffened up on me. Maybe he'll make the Strub (on Feb. 1)." Mananan McLir worked four furlongs Wednesday at Santa Anita in :48.40.Probable for the San Fernando: Century City, Laffit Pincay Jr., Mananan McLir, Pat Valenzuela; Pass Rush, Corey Nakatani; Rushin' To Altar, Alex Solis; Tizbud, Victor Espinoza; and Tracemark, Kent Desormeaux.
