(from track report)Trainer John Kimmel reports that his promising 3-year-old Silver Squire suffered a knee injury in the Spectacular Bid Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 3 and will be sidelined indefinitely.
"He appeared to come out of the race okay," Kimmel said, "but the next morning we discovered he had filling in his left knee. It's too bad because he ran such a big race in the Spectacular Bid and looked to have a very promising career. I'm not sure at this time how long he'll be out of action."
Silver Squire had won three of his four career outings in New York entering the Spectacular Bid. The grey son of Silver Ghost hit the side of the gate at the start, trailed in ninth place to the turn then closed fast through the stretch and was third, beaten a by 1 1/4 length in the six-furlong test.
