Jeri and Sam Knighton's multiple stakes winner Request for Parole, fifth in last year's Kentucky Derby (gr. I), made his 4-year-old debut sucessful Wednesday, defeating an optional claiming/allowance field at Gulfstream Park.

Ridden by Edgar Prado and carrying 118 pounds Request for Parole, was sent off at 4-1 in the field of 10. The race, worth $40,000, was for older horses who have never won four races other than maiden, claiming, or starter events, or who are running for a $100,000 tag.

The winning time for the 1 1/16-mile race over a firm turf was 1:46.33. Stakes-winning Boastful finished second with Zloty running third. Generous Rosi, a graded stakes winner, was scratched. Four-time Florida stakes winner Wertzran fifth.

Request for Parole was sidelined with a stress fracture in his left front leg for nearly seven months. Transferred from trainer Steve Margolis to Stanley Hough following surgery, Request for Parole finished fifth in his first race back when he lost by 17 3/4 lengths in a one-mile Aqueduct allowance race on Nov. 29.

Robert and Bea Roberts bred the son of Judge T C. He won two stakes at Turfway Park last year, and is five-for-13 lifetime with earnings of $369,522.

Request for Parole paid $10, $5 and $4.40. Boastful returned $4 and $3.40. Zloty paid $7.40.
