Portland Meadows, who will kick off its 65th season of live racing on Monday, Oct. 17, will begin its new $25,000 Ultimate ShowVivor Online Contest. The new promotion starts on Oct. 24.
Portland Meadows will feature a new first post time of 12 p.m. PDT. The 55-day live racing schedule will consist of racing on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays through December. Live racing will continue into 2012 with Monday and Wednesday race days through closing day March 14. This year’s average daily purses are scheduled to be at about $42,350.
Once again the headlining day of the meeting will be Oregon Championship Day, which will be run on a Sunday Dec. 11. Oregon Championship Day will feature five stakes races all for Oregon-bred runners.
Also new this season is the McFadden Memorial Claiming Series which begins Nov. 2, and culminates with a $28,000 estimated final on Dec. 7. Horsemen will be gearing up for this event that starts with a $2,500 five-furlong claiming race and then moves on to a $4,000 claiming race Nov. 16. The horses with the most points earned in those first two races will run in the $28,000 estimated final.
