Saintly Look closed from off the pace in spite of a speed-favoring Fair Grounds main track to win the $75,000 Sugar Bowl Stakes Sunday by three-quarters of a length over Broke Again.

Ridden by Shane Sellers, Saintly Look prevailed in the final strides in a time of 1:10.38 for six furlongs. After taking a brief lead in the stretch, Broke Again held on for second, two lengths clear of Crowned King.

Owned by William Carl and trained by Dallas Stewart, Saintly Look returned $4.60, $2.60 and $2.20 as the favorite in the seven-horse field.

Saintly Look earned $45,000 for his first stakes win, which comes in his fourth career start. The 2-year-old son of Saint Ballado should get a chance to stretch out to two turns for his next start.

"We think this colt has a lot of potential and the plan is to stretch him out," Stewart said. "Shane was well placed and he showed what kind of horse he is in the lane."
