Svea Dahl, claimed by owner Roddy Valente and trainer Bruce Levine in June, won for the fourth time and in her last six starts, taking $50,000 Carousel Stakes at Laurel Park in gate-to-wire fashion.
Ridden by Ramon Dominguez, the New York invader set a controlled pace and led every step of the way, covering the 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:44.57 to win by two lengths. The overwhelming 1-2 choice paid $3 for her victory.
Svea Dahl, who won the Turnback the Alarm (gr. III) at Aqueduct on Nov. 3 in a front-running effort, will be pointing to the filly and mare division of the Sunshine Millions on Jan. 25.
The win capped a whirlwind week for Dominguez, who has ridden at three different race tracks this week. On Thursday he was at Santa Anita for the Malibu (gr. I) before returning to Laurel on Friday. Yesterday he was at the Fair Grounds in Louisiana for the $100,000 Woodchopper, making it back to Maryland this morning.
