Group II winner Family One brought the top price of €400,000 ($550,028 in U.S. funds) Nov. 14 during the opening session of the Arqana autumn mixed sale in Deauville in France. The auction was moved this year from its traditional location, Saint-Cloud, and session of yearlings was added to the usual session of horses in training and stores.
Marie Yoshida of Asian Bloodstock purchased Family One, who is a 2-year-old son of Dubai Destination and is out of the Desert Style mare Ascot Family. The colt will be sent to Hong Kong, where he will race for Edmund Yue.
Consigned by trainer Yann Barberot, Family One has won four of his seven career races in England and France, and he has earned $327,788. He captured the Prix Robert Papin (Fr-II) and the Prix du Bois (Fr-III) this year. He also finished second in the Darley Prix Morny (Fr-I).
The results for the auction’s first session included a gross of €3,865,000 ($5,314,650) for the 136 horses that were sold. The average price was €28,419 ($39,078) and the median price was €10,000 ($13,751). In addition, five horses were sold privately, grossing €116,000 ($159,508).
The clearance rate was 78.2%.
