Trainer Ken McPeek and his wife Sue are in the process of developing a horse racing mobile application for iPhones and the Android that will funnel some revenues into purses.
According to a release, McPeek Racing has retained Paladin Capital Partners in California to help it complete the development and deployment of the Horse Races NOW app that will be aimed at fans, owners, breeders, and trainers.
McPeek said specifics of the app are still being developed, but that it will be an entertainment app and will not have a wagering component. He said future revenue potential would be from advertising and race replays.
“We have been working with The Jockey Club and Hardave Gill of Post Time Technologies in Canada to build out an app that our customers and prospects can use to access up-to-date information on their favorite racetracks, horses, trainers, and jockeys, including live videos,” Kenny McPeek said in the release. “With the technology in place, we want to accelerate our time to market, and that’s where Paladin comes in.”
Paladin’s principals are Chuck Champion and Gary Sproule, former executives with Youbet.com who recently announced they were developing an advanced deposit wagering platform for a partnership between Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino and the Iowa Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association.
“Paladin’s principals, Chuck Champion, and Gary Sproule know racing and they have a track record for developing content-rich, digital revenue models,” McPeek said. “We think their involvement in our project ensures the creation of a strong value proposition for customers and a unique competitive position for our company.”
