Ogygian Mare Tops Fasig-Tipton Sale as Average Soars

Gaye's Locket, a 7-year-old daughter of Ogygian, was purchased by Brereton C. Jones for $55,000 to top Monday's December Mixed Sale conducted by Fasig-Tipton Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
The mare was consigned by C. A. Hansen's Montessori as agent for G and K Stable. A half-sister to multiple stakes winner Gallant Step, Gaye's Locket was sold in foal to freshman sire Distorted Humor.
The sales company reported 140 horses sold for a gross of $946,700. The average price of $6,762 represented a 53.9% gain over the $4,392 average last year when 121 horses grossed $531,400. This year's median price was $3,500, compared with $3,000 one year ago. The 99 horses that did not sell Monday represented 41% of the 239 through the ring; in 2001 the buyback rate was 28.8% as 49 of the total 170 offered did not sell.Results From Fasig-Tipton
