Eishin Champ, a 2-year-old son of Mi Cielo, set a course record of 1:33.5 for 1 mile when he won Sunday's Asahi Cup Futurity Stakes (Jpn-I) over a turf course rated good at Japan's Nakayama Racecourse. Sakura President, a son of Sunday Silence, was a neck back in second, followed by T M Rikisan as the final times for the top three finishers bettered the previous course record.

The victory by Toyomitu Hirai's colt was his first in graded company. Previously, the colt produced from the Manila mare Eishin Michigan was victorious in the Kyoto Nisal Stakes. Eishin Champ has now won three of nine career starts, with four ruenner-up efforts, with converted earnings of $861,789 for trainer Tsutomu Setoguchi.

The winner was bred in Kentucky by Colubiana Farm.
