Bomb Threat Cancels Racing at Ascot

Racing at Ascot, in England, was canceled after the first race Saturday due to a coded bomb threat.

Track officials received word of the bomb threat as the horses were nearing the start of the second race, the Willmott Dixon Cornwalis Stakes (Eng-III), and track patrons were evacuated from the grandstands.

No decision has been made on whether the track will reschedule the three stakes races which were canceled.

In the first race, Nayef, a half-brother of Nashwan, won the one-mile Tom McGee Autumn Stakes by six lengths. Trained by Marcus Tregoning, the 2-year-old son of Gulch is currently the 5-1 favorite for next year's Two Thousand Guineas, according to the International Racing Bureau.
