Jockey Corey Nakatani, sidelined since August 26 with a broken collarbone, is scheduled to work horses at Santa Anita this weekend. The rider is hoping to get his doctor's clearance to ride starting next week.
"He was on the pony today," said agent Bob Meldahl. "He'll work two horses tomorrow, Sunday and Monday. On Tuesday, we'll go back to the doctor to have him look at it. If he thinks everything is fine, we'll get the release to ride so it would be Wednesday or Thursday that we'd start up again. He'll ride two or three a day until the weekend."
Nakatani suffered the injury when Candace in Paris clipped heels with another horse and fell during the $76,175 Finlandia Cup Handicap at Del Mar on the Pacific Classic (gr. I) undercard. Candace in Paris was euthanized.
Nakatani has accepted the mount from trainer Julio Canani on Iradonis for the Oak Tree Breeders' Cup Mile Handicap (gr. IIT) Saturday, Oct. 14, according to a Santa Anita release.
