Roll Hennessy Roll, impressive winner of the Hollywood Prevue Stakes (gr. III) Nov. 23, will try the Hollywood Futurity (gr. I) at 1 1/16 miles Dec. 21, trainer Rafael Becerra confirmed Thursday.
Becerra said he and owner Stanley Fulton agreed on the Futurity next for the son of Hennessy.
"He breezed three-eighths Monday and will probably work again Sunday," said Bacerra. "The way he won the other day (drawing away by four lengths at seven furlongs), I think he will make two turns. Every time I work him, he gallops out strong."
Becerra was an assistant for Gary Jones when he won the 1983 Futurity with Fali Time. "Working for someone like Gary, you learn a lot about how to get a horse ready for a race like this," said Becerra. Roll Hennessy Roll, victorious in four of five starts, will again be ridden by Alex Solis.
At Santa Anita, trainer Bob Baffert said that he planned to saddle a pair for the Futurity – Kafwain, winner of the Norfolk Stakes (gr. II) and runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I), and Domestic Dispute, who may have needed his last start in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill Downs.
"He was laying second and got tired," Baffert said of Domestic Dispute.
Also being pointed toward the Futurity are Champagne (gr. I) and Remsen (gr. II) winner Toccet and the Bobby Frankel-trained Ghostzapper.
