Saturday Sam Houston Race Park will offer $1.8 million in purses in the first Great State Challenge. The Texas track has carded 10 live races, including six added-money events worth $275,000 apiece. The Great State Challenge is sponsored by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.

Among the horses competing in the various divisions of the Great State Challenge are multiple stakes winners Take Charge Lady, who gets a break in the weights in the Great State Challenge Distaff (she is the only 3-year-old in the field and will carry 120 pounds), and 7-year-old Forbidden Apple, who is in the nine-furlong Turf.

Post is 1 p.m. and the first Great State Challenge Race, the seven-furlong Juvenile Fillies, is the third race on the card.

TVG will offer exclusive, live, on-site coverage of the event presented by John Deere and Fed Ex from Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday, with simulcast coverage on a special edition of FOX Sports Net West 2 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. ET. The telecast will be sponsored by the NTRA.
