With his third place finish aboard Robert Frankel-trained Royal Gem in Sunday's Hollywood Derby at Hollywood Park, Jerry Bailey established a new single season record for North American purse earnings by a jockey with $19,032,509, according to Equibase Company.
Bailey held the previous record of $19,015,720 earned by his mounts in North America during 2001. Through Sunday, Bailey has won 209 races from 822 starts in North America this year. (The figures are for North America only and do not include the Dubai World Cup victory by Bailey aboard Street Cry in the United Arab Emirates.)
Meanwhile, Frankel made up ground in his attempt to eclipse the record set by D. Wayne Lukas in 1988, when his stable earned $17,842,358. Frankel's stable had earned $17,271,228 through Sunday, according to Equibase. Frankel has been represented by 109 winners from 454 starters this year.Leading Jockeys ListLeading Trainers List
