Man Among Men, winner of the Pinjara Stakes at Santa Anita in his last start, breezed three furlongs in :37.80 on the main track Wednesday for the $200,000 Generous Stakes (gr. IIIT) for 2-year-olds at one mile on turf Saturday.

"It was a nice breeze; he's doing good," said trainer Gary Mandella, seeking his first graded stakes victory after sending out his first starter less than a year ago.

Mandella, who trains 12 horses, conditions the homebred chestnut colt for R.D. Hubbard, former Hollywood Park chairman, and Connie Sczesny. By Hollywood Gold Cup winner Gentlemen out of La Favorita, Man Among Men has won two out of three starts and is unbeaten in two turf outings.

Mandella's father, Hall of Famer Richard Mandella, trained Gentlemen for Hubbard. "Mr. Hubbard bought the mare out of France," said Gary. "This is her first foal they have kept. The farm manager said it was her best one."
