Thanksgiving Day with the Ponies

A number of racetracks have stakes races or special events on Thanksgiving Day. Here are some of the highlights:
Aqueduct's plans for Thursday include the 89th running of the
Fall Highweight Handicap (gr. III). First post in New York on Thursday is 11 a.m., with the feature slated to go off around 2:10 p.m. Parking gates open at 9:15 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, while Admission Gates open at 9:30 a.m.
Calder Race Course will open its gates at 9:30 a.m. and will kick off live racing at 11 a.m. The feature race is the
Thanksgiving Day Starter Handicap for 3-year-olds and up. Both of Calder's dining rooms will offer a traditional Thanksgiving meal for $14.95.
Churchill Downs' Thanksgiving Day includes the Falls City Handicap (gr. II) for fillies and mares, three and up. For more information or reservations, call(502) 636-4899.
Fair Grounds will open its race meet with the
Thanksgiving Handicap on Thursday. Eight horses are scheduled to contest the $75,000 race. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the first post is 12:30 (CST). The first 5,000 fans in the doors receive a Fair Grounds calendar.
Thistledown will be open for simulcasting Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Eleven track signals are to be offered. There is free parking and free admission for every customer, and free classic seating while it lasts. Turkey dinners will be $3.95 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Stadium Club.
