Brattothecore, making only her second start in Sunday's $160,200 Ontario Lassie Stakes at Woodbine, made a strong move on the final turn to capture the 1 1/16-mile juvenile test for fillies by 2 1/4 lengths.
With jockey Jake Barton in the irons, the chestnut daughter of Katahaula County was allowed to relax in the early going. After a half mile, Deputy Cures Blues and race favorite Santerra pulled away from the rest of the field, racing in their own match-race six lengths ahead of their rivals. Around the far turn, Barton let Brattothecore unleash a spirited run. Driving three-wide to the top of the stretch, Brattothecore went on to win in 1:47.80 over a track rated fast.
"Today she was really feeling good and on her game and I thought Jake did a great job sitting back behind that fast pace, and really picked her up down the lane when the real running began," said trainer John Ross.
Brattothecore boosted her career earnings to $121,140 for owner Jam Jar Racing Stable.
Brattothecore returned $11.30, $4.80, $3.30 combining with Deputy Cures Blues ($3.20, $2.80) for a $28.20 exacta. Kabul ($5.50) completed the $182.20 trifecta.
