Cornelio Velasquez, the leading jockey at Calder Race Course, rode winners in six races Sunday, tying the record held by three other riders during the Tropical meet.

Velasquez won five races, the fourth through the eighth, consecutively.

The six victories tied the Tropical mark held by Jacinto Vasquez (in 1990), Rene Douglas (1993), and Javier Castellano (2000).

[Jockeys to ride six winners during the Calder meet are George Gomez (1977), Walter Guerra (1979), Rene Douglas (1995), and Eibar Coa (1998).]

In addition to his six victories, Velasquez was never off the board in four other races he rode, finishing second three times and third once.

Velasquez won the fourth with Fight Over Sea ($6.80), the fifth astride Jason's Love ($9.40), the sixth on Born Mighty ($5), the seventh aboard Maliziosa ($3.40), the eighth on True Hope ($5) and the 10th with Ebony Breeze ($3.20).
