Even-money favorite Roll Hennessy Roll wrested the lead from Jimmy O near the quarter pole and cruised to an easy win in Saturday's $125,000 Hollywood Prevue Stakes (gr. III) for 2-year-olds.

In spite of a fast pace, the chestnut son of Hennessy was pulling away in the 7-furlong Prevue by four lengths over Red Apache in a time of 1:27.68 on a fast strip.

Racing with blinkers for the first time, Stan E. Fulton's Keeneland September 2001 purchase was ridden by Alex Solis. Rafael Becerra trains him. Roll Hennessy Roll won for the fourth time in five outings. His previous three victories came in New Mexico. He was coming off of a third-place finish in the Sunny Slope Stakes at Santa Anita Oct. 19. The $75,000 winning purse increased the juvenile's career bankroll to $140,028.

The victory stamped Roll Hennessy Roll as a strong contender for the Grade I Hollywood Futurity on Dec. 21. A Futurity win by a horse with a modest start to his career wouldn't be unprecedented. Real Quiet won the 1997 Hollywood Futurity after running in New Mexico, then went on to capture the 1998 Kentucky Derby and Preakness.

Roll Hennessy Roll broke on top in the field of seven, but allowed Jimmy O to take over in the opening furlong. The opening quarter-mile was run in :21.68. He continued to apply pressure before taking control on the turn.

The winner paid $4, $2.80 and $2.10. Red Apache returned $4.20 and $2.20. Hell Cat closed well to be third, paying $2.40.
