Caribbean Series Showcases Best in Five Countries

Five countries will join forces on Dec. 7 and 8 in Puerto Rico for the Caribbean Series 2002. Horses and trainers from Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela will converge at El Comandante Racetrack in Canovanas, Puerto Rico for four races featuring horses from each country.
The highlight is the Clasico del Caribe, the richest race in Latin America. It features 3-year-olds going nine furlongs with a purse of $300,000.
A Hall of Fame celebration will also take place in Puerto Rico during the weekend, where outstanding participants from years past will be honored. The main race will be carried on ESPN.
