Wildenstein Stable's Rolly Polly won the $76,970 Safely Kept Handicap on turf for older fillies and mares at Hollywood Park Sunday for the second straight year.
The 4-year-old Irish daughter of Mukaddamah closed steadily for jockey Kent Desormeaux to capture a half-length win over Wild Tickle and Harvest Girl, who finished in a deadheat for second.
The winning time for the Bobby Frankel-trained Rolly Polly was 1:03.01 for the 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass.
Rolly Polly now has won 10 of 17 career starts for career earnings of nearly $450,000. She has won five of nine U.S. races since arriving from Europe with a 1 1/2-length win in last year's Safely Kept.
The winner was anxious early, but came off the rail in upper stretch to begin her run under urging by Desormeaux. It appeared that she was going to hang in deep stretch, but came on again to surge ahead of Wild Tickle and Harvest, who gave way grudgingly.
The 2-5 favorite in the five-horse field, Rolly Polly paid $2.80, $2.10 and $2.10. Wild Tickle and Harvest Girl each returned $2.20 and $2.10.
