Enrique Sarasola, Raced Arc Winner Helissio, Dead

Spanish breeder/owner Enrique Sarasola, who raced multiple French champion male Helissio, died Nov. 2 at a Madrid hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 65.
Sarasola received international recognition by winning the 1996 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Lucien Barriere (Fr-I) with Helissio. Four years later, his filly Volvoreta ran third in the Arc as a 3-year-old.
A native of Spain, Sarasola emigrated to Colombia at age 20 and returned a successful businessman in 1970. From 1992-96, he owned La Zarzuela racetrack near Madrid.
Sarasola's survivors include sons Enrique and Fernando.
