Clyde Rice will disperse his bloodstock over the next several months, beginning Nov. 5 at the Fasig-Tipton selected mixed sale in Lexington. Included in the November sale are 3-year-old broodmare prospect Prairie Princess and 1997 Athenia Handicap (gr. IIIT) winner Rapid Selection, in foal to Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) winner Awesome Again, as well as weanlings by Favorite Trick, End Sweep, and Storm Creek.
Rice will continue his dispersal at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky's December mixed sale and the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s January sale. His 1999 foals, who are currently being broken, will be offered at various Florida 2-year-olds in training sales next year. The couple will also put their Indian Prairie Ranch, located near Ocala, Fl., on the market.
"My wife Jean and I have worked without a break for the last 15 years developing our business at Indian Prairie," Rice said, adding the couple planned to travel and visit their four children. "Frankly, we've been better as sire and dam than either of us were as runners," Rice said of their children, who are also involved in the Thoroughbred industry.
