Say Florida Sandy Nears $2 Million With Win

All-time New York-bred money-winner Say Florida Sandy edged ever closer to the $2 million mark when he notched this 31st career victory Friday in an allowance race at Aqueduct.

With Jose Santos aboard, John Rotella's 8-year-old gelding picked up a $33,600 winner's share when he defeated True Direction by a neck in a $56,000 allowance. That brought his career earnings to $1,971,458.

Making his 90th career start, the son of Personal Flag was sent off at odds of 7-2. He was timed in 1:08.92 for the six furlongs and returned $9.40 for the win.

In the Friday's allowance feature, Quiet Ruler beat Gritty Sandie by more than two lengths.

Quiet Ruler, ridden by John Velazquez, covered 1 3/8 miles in 2:24 3/5 and paid $8.90, $5 and $3.10. The win, worth $36,400 for Old Brookside Farm and Randy J. Sarf, was Quiet Ruler's second straight and third in nine starts.

Gritty Sandie returned $4.40 and $2.50, and Perfect Stranger paid $2.70 to show.
