Bridesmaid Buffalo Jump in Glorious Song

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. But that could all change for Buffalo Jump this Sunday at Woodbine in the $125,000 Glorious Song Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at seven furlongs.
With the exception of a seventh-place finish in the Natalma Stakes on Sept. 7, Buffalo Jump has been a runner-up in her two other added-money starts, the Ontario Debutante and most recently, the Fanfreluche.
"She's a filly who certainly tries every time," said trainer Josie Carroll of the chestnut who lost by half-a-length to Miss Crissy in the Fanfreluche Stakes on Oct. 20. "She ran a very game race last time out, hopefully this time we can get the win."
With four top-three finishes in five lifetime starts, the Eaton Hall Farm-owned 2-year-old has displayed a penchant for always being in the thick of the action. The only off-key race came in the Natalma, a run on the Toronto oval's E.P. Taylor Turf Course.
"We thought she would definitely handle the turf, but we were incorrect," offered Carroll. "But she came back strong and is in good shape.
"I think she needed seasoning more than anything else. She does have a mind of her own, but she's a tough filly and that's what I like to see at her age."
The flattering aspects of the daughter of Benny the Dip don't end there.
"Whenever she finishes her morning work, she's bucking and playing and enjoying herself," said Carroll, of the lifetime earner of $113,970.
As for the Glorious Song, the veteran conditioner anticipates a similar pattern in running style from the Ontario-bred.
"She has enough speed to stay up close, but I'd like to see her closing strongly at the end rather than being disinterested."
The only question mark heading into the event is something beyond Carroll's control – the weather. Sunday's forecast, which calls for a 70 per cent chance of rain, could produce a sloppy main track, a surface Buffalo Jump hasn't raced over in her young career to date.
"I have no idea how she'd take to it, to be honest. I do think she can handle the distance, though."$125,000 Glorious Song, 7 furlongs, 2-year-old fillies
