Gary and Mary West's Grade 1 winner Mongoose has been retired and will stand at John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farm near Lexington.
The 4-year-old son of Broad Brush out of Salty Gal, by Cox's Ridge, won six of 17 starts in three seasons of racing, including this year's Donn Handicap (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park. Mongoose's final start was an eighth-place finish in the Massachusetts Handicap (gr. I), won by Macho Uno, at Suffolk Downs on June 1. He will stand at Hill 'n' Dale for $5,000.
"We are delighted the Wests have decided to stand this horse at Hill 'n' Dale," Sikura said. "I love Broad Brush, who is the only sire other than Storm Cat to be a top 20 sire in North America every year since 1994. At $5,000, this horse should be extremely popular."
