A field of six is likely for the 1 1/16-mile, $70,000-added Steinlen Handicap over the Hollywood Park turf Sunday.
Once again, trainer Bobby Frankel is expected to send out the highweight and favorite, Decarchy, who will carry 122 pounds including pilot Kent Desormeaux. Decarchy, a stakes winner in the Frank Kilroe Mile earlier this year at Santa Anita, has been sidelined since April with a splint injury. He was second in his last effort, in the San Francisco Mile.
Futural, remembered for crossing the wire first in the 2001 Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I) before being disqualified for interference, returns to California after a sojourn through Washington state and British Columbia. Craig Dollase lost Futural via the claim box last June, and the 6-year-old gelding will be saddled for the Steinlen by Mike Harrington.
Neil Drysdale starts White Heart, a 7-year-old gelding who won the grade I Charlie Whittingham Handicap at Hollywood two years ago. He is coming off the bench for the first time since a fourth in the Woodford Reserve at Churchill Downs Derby weekend. This effort is a prep for a run in the Citation Handicap Nov. 30.
Freedom Crest also returns to action after bleeding in the Lone Star Handicap in May. He has raced once before on turf for conditioner Richard Baltas. Also probable for the Steinlen are Devine Wind and Seinne.
