Touch Tone, a 4-year-old stakes winner and grade I stakes-placed son of Pick Up the Phone, has been retired and will stand in 2003 at Jim Helzer's JEH Stallion Station near Pilot Point, Texas. He will stand for $2,500.

Touch Tone made just eight starts. He won his first two starts, the second being the Alysheba Stakes at Lone Star by five lengths. He also won the Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows by 7 1/4 lengths, and ran a huge race in the Haskell (gr. I) last year, finishing a close second to Horse of the Year Point Given.

Owned by Tom Durant and trained by Ronny Werner, Touch Tone made his final start in the NAPA Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I). He closed his career by finishing ninth in the race won by Orientate.

The Sprint was the only start in which Touch Tone finished worse than third. He earned $632,850.

"We are extremely excited about standing Touch Tone," Helzer exclaimed. "He has a tremendous race record and showed exceptional speed. We believe he is a valuable addition to Texas."
