Shanghai Bobby confirmed for BC Juvenile

Grade 1 Champagne and Grade 2 Hopeful star Shanghai Bobby will contest the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, connections announced Monday.

In the immediate aftermath of the undefeated colt's win in Saturday's Champagne, Starlight Racing's Jack Wolf had been noncommittal about shipping to Santa Anita for the November 3 championship event. But further consultation with trainer Todd Pletcher helped in the decision-making.

"Todd and I discussed our options this morning," Wolf, the stable's managing partner, said Monday. "The colt came out of the race in great shape and has given us every indication that he belongs.

"He's done everything that's been asked of him and more. We are very excited for our partners and team and feel fortunate to have such a talented colt headed to the World Championships."

A winner of all four starts with earnings of $607,000, Shanghai Bobby bested a field of six in the Champagne, winning by an easy five lengths. The victory earned him an automatic berth in the Juvenile with entry fees paid and also gave him 10 points toward a start in the 2013 Kentucky Derby.

Shanghai Bobby will be making his two-turn debut in the 1 1/16-mile Breeders' Cup Juvenile. With a $2 million purse, it ranks as the richest two-year-old race in North America.
