Godolphin Racing's dual Guineas winner Bachir has been retired and will stand at Kildangan Stud in Ireland beginning in the 2001 breeding season, according to Sporting Life. Bachir won five of 10 career races, including a rare classic double of the Dubai Poule d'Essai des Poulains-French Two Thousand Guineas (Fr-I) and the Entenmanns Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I). In the latter race, he defeated Giant's Causeway by a neck.
As a juvenile last year, Bachir (Desert Style--Morning Welcome, by Be My Guest) won the Richmond Stakes (Eng-II) before finishing third in both the Prix Morny (Fr-I) and Prix de la Salamandre (Fr-I). After his two successive Guineas wins in May, the Saeed bin Suroor trainee finished sixth in Giant's Causeway's St. James Palace Stakes (Eng-I) before finishing fifth against older horses in the Celebration Mile (Eng-II).
The 3-year-old retires with career earnings of $619,484. His 2001 stud fee will be just over $11,000, approximately.
